EVP MORSE – 42

Alison asks Rolf if there were any clubs or groups he was affiliated to as a Radio Ham.

Morse reads:  DASD UND RUFZEICHENLISTE

Translates to:  DASD AND CALLSIGN LIST

Listen to the Voice EVP just before the morse, you can hear him say “Hi My Name is Rolf Wigand”    😎

DASD was the German amateur radio society up to and during WW2. Today it is called DARC. I found Rolf’s callsign D4CXF on the DASD list. I have included a couple of pages from the DASD Magazine CQ where you can see Rolf Wigand.  Click Here

Rolf Wigand, D4cxf – DE0065, was probably the most prominent radio amateur of his day in Germany. He travelled to the US in pre-war time, and he wrote very many technical articles and also comprehensive papers. I suppose he was a professional author who could afford to travel to the United States. I think his connection to the USA was probably what caused him to be accused of spying and killed by the Gestapo.

It’s interesting to note that amateur radio operation was not forbidden in wartime Germany. One had to be, nevertheless, a member of the official DASD. First, one had to apply for a so-called ‘DE license’, which was a shortwave listening permit before you could apply for a licence to transmit.
