EVP MORSE – 16

Alison asks Rolf if there is anyone else living or in spirit who may have worked at the same RAF Base as myself.

Morse Reads: LESLIE MORRIS PBX OPS HERE NOT BLIND

I find this one to be a great example. Les Morris was a switchboard operator in the telephone exchange (PBX) at RAF Finningley where I was stationed in 1987.

I found this on the RAF Finningley Notice Board…

SAD TO INFORM Y
OU ALL OF THE DEATH OF LES MORRIS WHO WAS A PBX OPERATOR AT FINNINGLEY UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN 1979. LES WAS 89 YEARS OLD AND ALTHOUGH BLIND SINCE HIS 30s HAD OVER 30 YEARS SERVICE WITH THE RAF BOTH AT RAF DONCASTER AND FINNINGLEY.

Seems he was very well liked. Nice to know he is no longer blind on the other side  🙂

From the Notice Board:
“I was posted to Finningley in 1967 working in SHQ, Station Library, and finally onto 230 OCU (Admin). I remember Les very well. He seemed to know everyone’s names. What a great man he was and what a memory. I am sure he will be remembered by ALL. God Bless Les.”  Gordon Michael Perry
